Pomegranate – a tropical fruit with superpowers!

We all love – this “newly found superfruit” with is fiery red seeds and pinky rind. Very few people know that pomegranate comes from Iran and Iraq, and its cultivation spread to the US and continental Europe only a few years back.

It is considered to be a “superfruit” as its juice contains antioxidants that maintain the elasticity of the arteries, as well substances that support a healthy prostate for men.

Considered a folk medicine in the Ayurvedic traditions, in western countries is mainly consumed for its antiviral and antibacterial properties.

Let’s check how can we use it for our health:

Juice: men can drink one glass of freshly squeezed juice of the pomegranate to lower the levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) – that is, prostate cancer.

For the heart: pomegranate seeds contain polyphenols that keep the arteries elastic and help blood pressure a optimal levels, preventing stroke and heart attacks. It also stops the development of free radicals by hitting the bad cholesterol, which causes plaque to build up on artery walls.

Infections: pomegranate arils contain antiviral properties, so drinking a freshly squeezed pomegranate each day (when it is in season of course) helps you get rid of the cold.

How to get the best from pomegranate:

Eat the seeds:

The arils are fibre-high and also contain unsaturated fats as well as other micronutrients.

Juice it: 

Same, but you get less fibre. Oh well, it is still good.

Best way to use pomegranate:
