Purple Food?

You know how they say eat a rainbow? This article in The Telegraph suggests that we’re soon going to be shopping for and filling our places with purple-coloured food. This piece of research comes from Whole Foods, who saw what was being favoured in all their stores worldwide.

Of course, we’re not surprised because we love making up a big batch of Moussaka at the weekends. But apparently, we’re not just going to be eating the regular purple aubergines and purple sprouting broccoli – a whole host of other vegetables are coming to the market soon. Purple cauliflower, purple sweet potatoes – what next? And it’s also superfoods like acai that are pushing this trend forward. Another tip, according to the article, is to consume black rice which shares the nutritional properties of the other purple foods.

The benefits come in the form of anti-oxidants, which are great for a healthy heart and reducing the effects of ageing. So the next time you go shopping, make sure you load up your trolley with purple veggies.
