Just because we’re on a diet, it doesn’t mean we stop experimenting with new recipes to use our products in. On our ‘cheat’ days, we allow ourselves some carbs. Rather than going for a overly sweet granola or breakfast cereal, or a plate of starchy white rice, we treat ourselves to a good sandwich made up of a couple of slices of some amazing artisan wheat and rye sourdough bread. Now, this bread has a strong tangy, nutty flavour that can overpower most fillings. So you have to choose the accompaniments wisely. Heading out to the local supermarket at lunchtime, we found a pack of sliced Monterrey Jack cheese as an alternative to using Cheddar. Now this cheese has a creamy, though mild flavour that doesn’t compete with that of the bread. For a change, instead of using a pickle, we opened up a jar of our favourite Urbangrains Orange and Pink Peppercorn Jam, slathered a layer of it over the slices of cheese, and our sandwich was good to go.

If you haven’t tried it yet, we can definitely recommend it.

The jam gives you a burst of orangey flavour and aroma that stands out against the sourdough but pairs nicely with the cheese. And suddenly you also get surprised by a burst of peppercorn and that completely alters the flavour profile of your meal. An unusual twist to your average sandwich for sure..
