Feeling tired all the time? Need to stress out? Can’t get out of bed?
You are not alone. Hundreds like you (or is it by the millions?) wake up, wash up, drink a coffee and go to work. Nothing great to that.
What if you could change your routine? What if you could feel more balanced and less tired?
Well, it starts from the morning you wake up. Change your habits, change your life, they say (for the better, of course).
Here are a few great steps that you can do tomorrow when you wake up so as to feel more energised, well balanced and healthy.
Step 1: Stretch for 3 minutes – obviously you may do it, but not for a whole three minutes! Well, do this: upon waking up, stretch your body aaall the way from your head to your toes. Think happy thoughts, such as the image of your kid, your dog, or cat. Ask, what do you need to feel good today?
Step 2: Drink water – when in China, I learned that all Chinese people drink a hot cup of plain water in the morning when they wake up, before doing anything else, and another cup before they go to bed. Initially I thought it was for dieting/weight loss (as everyone is thin there!) but then someone told me that being hydrated is one of the most important things. Many people start their day with stimulants like coffee or juice and rarely incorporate water into their daily routine. This can result in fatigue, skin problems, and headaches. Drinking water will also stimulate your digestive system to start waking up, and provide a little wake up call to your brain as well. In other posts we have also written about putting half a lemon, and this is also helpful – but not in boiling water!
Step 3: Can you exercise for at least 10 minutes? If so, you will feel way more active than before. Anything goes – yoga, pilates, running, abs – just get your body active.
Step 4: Have a shower – cold is better. Why? Because it tones the skin. If you can’t have a cold one, at least wash your face with cold water – I guarantee you will wake up.
Step 5: Eat your breakfast, without any noise. Listen to nice, vibrant piano music, something uplifting to make your day. Close your eyes and feel you are at your favorite place, upon drinking your favorite beverage. Enjoying a nice breakfast, with as much as protein and as possible (and it doesn’t have to be bacon) will give you the necessary energy to carry on with your daily tasks.
Step 6: Read while going to work – or before leaving your house. Do this for at least 30 minutes. Lose yourself in an interesting book – or start learning a new skill. Reading calms the brain, takes your mind to places, and stimulates your own ability to learn better. Not only that, but it’s a very peaceful gateway into whatever else you’ve got on the agenda for the rest of your day.
So what do you think? Shall we make it a challenge?
